Microsoft’s SwiftKey keyboard on Android now includes Bing AI
Microsoft is reportedly integrating Bing AI into Android’s SwiftKey keyboard, allowing users to access generative AI by pressing a button on the keyboard in any app.
According to The Verge, the feature is currently only reserved for SwiftKey beta users on Android, but can be easily downloaded from the PlayStore.
To start using the feature, you need to sign in with your Microsoft account, and when you sign in, a small Bing logo will appear in the upper left corner of the keyboard.
As noted by The Verge, SwiftKey has a chat mode that provides access to a chatbot, as well as a voice mode that allows you to retype any text directly on the keyboard.
For those who don’t know, Microsoft has supported and invested in OpenAI – the company behind ChatGPT and GPT 4 that powers Bing Chat. And that’s why the company is able to integrate GPT-based services into its products, including MS Office, Edge and now the SwiftKey keyboard acquired in 2016.
It is interesting to note that Microsoft had more or less given up on SwiftKey. In fact, the app was removed from Apple’s App Store until users pressured Microsoft to bring it back in November last year.
Additionally, last year Pedram Rezaei, CTO of Microsoft’s Maps and Local Services Group, claimed that Microsoft would be “investing heavily in the keyboard,” and it looks like the company is doubling down on its promise.
Bing Chat is currently only available on the Android version of SwiftKey, and it’s currently unknown if the update will make its way to iOS, if at all.
